Differences Between the Cold Brew Method and Iced Coffee Preparation

Cold coffee is one of the most popular summer drinks among coffee lovers; however, cold brew and iced coffee are significantly different from each other. Although they are often thought to be the same, the difference between them is quite clear. What is commonly known as cold coffee, or iced coffee, is actually hot brewed coffee that is left to cool and then served with ice, milk, or cream. On the other hand, coffee prepared using the cold brew method is made by steeping coffee grounds in cold water for an extended period of time.

HOW TO MAKE COLD BREW COFFEE?

Let’s take a look at the details of our recipe for the cold brew method prepared at home with Juan Valdez Coffee…

INGREDIENTS FOR THE COLD BREW METHOD

• Cold Water

• Juan Valdez ground coffee

• A wide-mouth jar

• Fine filter paper

• The general coffee-to-water ratio is 1:10 (1 cup of coffee to 10 cups of water)

• To achieve a balanced level of acidity and caffeine, it is recommended to use medium-roasted beans for the cold brew method (Nariño can be an excellent choice)

HOW TO APPLY THE COLD BREW METHOD?

• Add the measured amount of ground coffee and filtered water into the jar (1 cup of coffee to 10 cups of water)

• Mix the ingredients thoroughly and let them rest for 5 minutes. Then stir again to ensure maximum homogenization of the coffee grounds.

• After mixing, seal the jar tightly and let it sit in the refrigerator for 12 to 24 hours. The longer you brew, the stronger the coffee will be. During this time, the coffee grounds will settle at the bottom for maximum extraction.

• Once the brewing process is complete, strain the coffee using a fine mesh strainer lined with filter paper.

• After filtering, your cold brew is ready to drink. If it tastes too strong, you can dilute it with water or add ice or milk according to your preference.
